"A chance for peace and a better life is all we need."
"A chance for peace and a better life is all we need, " said vocalist Julian Coleman. "As I look and study the Spare A Dime project, I'm so excited to play The Immigrant. Being African American and Japanese myself, I listen to my elders as they describe the time they had fighting for peace, or the struggle my grandmother had coming from Japan. Promise Land, the duet I sing in the first half of the show, not only gives the character hope, but it also gives me hope for a better tomorrow. We all long for the American Dream, and this duet questions how we can sustain it. As a freshman with COSACOSA, I'm so excited to work with the organization. I believe in their work and what they represent; I'm looking forward to making their vision come to life! Ladies and Gentleman, you won't want to miss this!"
Surpassing all hurdles of a dream deferred, singer/songwriter, arranger, and dreamer Coleman has truly made a mark in his hometown of Philadelphia. At the age of 20, he already has shared his vocal gifts with President Barack Obama, 6ABC's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Charlie Mack's Celebrity Weekend, Wawa Welcome America! Stages, 107.9's Daddy/Daughter Dance, and at the Kimmel Center's Verizon and Perelman Halls. As a CAPA alumni and student at the University of the Arts, Coleman believes music is the only thing that makes this life worth living. Constantly challenging his creativity, artistry, and intellect, he is also an accomplished dancer, pianist, and actor. Coleman is currently featured in two productions as part of the 2013 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts: Spare A Dime with COSACOSA and Flash of Time, an original mini-musical commissioned by the Kimmel Center to be featured nightly throughout the festival.
